The bottom line is I failed to complete the challenge. I didn't climb all of the 15 peaks in Snowdonia that are over 3000 feet (about 1000 metres), and make up the Welsh 3000s, I only climbed 10. An impulse decision meant I missed a whole section, covering 5 peaks, including my favourite, Tryfan. However,... Continue Reading →
Anglesey Coastal Path: walking for Cath day 2
To make a marathon length walk, today we needed to walk about 14 miles between Holyhead and Church day. The route would be easier than yesterday, with few hills, which was a good thing because some of us had very achy legs and sore feet. Sarah also had a nasty blister, but she wasn't going... Anglesey Coastal Path: walking for Cath day 1
Today we walked about 12 miles from Treaddur Bay to Holyhead, as part of our 2-day walking marathon raising money for the Brain Tumour Charity, in memory of our friend Cath. It was a long, day, but the scenery was stunning and the weather was glorious... I like to think Cath sent the sunshine, together... Continue Reading →
In memory of my friend
Indulge me for a moment, while I reminisce... This weekend five of us are spending the weekend together and walking 26 miles on the Anglesey coastal path, while we remember our lovely friend, Cath Willis. Cath was everything anyone could want in a friend... kind, funny, intelligent and lots more thoughts spring to mind. I... Continue Reading →
Llangollen Round running challenge: trials and tribulations
What a day! I spent most of it unsure whether I'd complete the full 33 miles or not, swinging from lows when my whole body ached and my mind wanted nothing more than to give in, to highs when I was loving it and determined to finish. The scenery was stunning; the weather was perfect... Continue Reading →
Nervous excitement
That's what I'm feeling today. I woke early, at about 5.30, and lay there thinking about the challenge ahead of me tomorrow, wondering whether I'll manage it. 33 miles of ascents and descents. And if I don't do it, does that mean the Welsh 3000s is off? I'm having a busy day so that's stopped... Continue Reading →
The challenges begin
I'm nervous... very nervous. I feel woefully underprepared for the challenges I've booked to take part in over the next few months, the first being the Llangollen Round on Saturday... a  guided challenge along a 33 mile trail in the hills around Llangollen and the River Dee, with 5300 feet of ascent. We did the... Continue Reading →
Geocaches, waterfalls, caves and a castle… a busy day!
We've had an eventful weekend. Warren and Steph, who we haven't see for a while, came to stay with their little girl, Daisy. It must have been a while because last time we saw Daisy she was a small cute 3-year old, climbing her first mountain, and now she's a tall, pretty 6-year old who... Continue Reading →
