An uneventful journey to Roquebrune sur Argens

About half an hour before we reached our destination, Camping des Pêcheurs in Roquebrune, I almost said how well our plans had gone today… almost, but I bit my tongue, not wanting to tempt fate. Now it’s 9 o’clock at night and I can say, the day has gone perfectly, with no dramas… very unusual for a travel day!

We left Palud sur Verdon and wound our way up and down, backwards and forwards, eventually reaching Draguignan. In this town we popped to see a dolmen, known as ‘the Fairy Stone’. It’s a collective burial place dating back to 2500BC. Not much remains but I was astonished to read that the covering flagstone weights 25 tonnes!

In the town, we also visited Lidl. The pleasing things here were that access was easy, as was parking, and we managed to get almost everything on our list… except fresh milk… why is it so difficult to get in France?!

Diesel was next. I was astounded to see it has dramatically increased in price over the last week! And despite finding the price was incorrect last time I’d used a website for cheap fuel in France, I used it again and found a Carrefour petrol station in Draguignan. This time it paid off… the price was as reported on the website and we filled up with the cheapest diesel in the region. I felt rather smug at every fuel station we subsequently passed, all of which were showing higher prices per litre 🙂

We easily found our campsite in Roquebrune, although I have to admit we did miss the entrance and had to go up to the next roundabout, go around it and come back. We’re climbing a big rock, Rocher de Roquebrune tomorrow… a short but steep ascent up and down, but with stunning 360 degree views. It looks very high from the campsite! 😮

Today, we just wandered into the town, looking for a few geocaches on the way. Frustratingly, we only found 1/3… a bit rubbish, but never mind. Roquebrune is another pretty French town. Today it was very quiet, as is the campsite… I assume this is because the season is coming to an end.

Back at the campsite, we had a swim in the pool then cooked lemon sole with leaks and roasted potatoes for dinner, followed by fruit tart. From the patisserie in town. Sitting here finishing our rosé, lovely and warm outside in the dark, we reflected that its been a lovely day 😊

  1. That looks like a pretty good day 👍🏻😊. Particularly the cheapest diesel, the swim and delicious meal outdoors. It certainly is very warm in the evenings. Enjoy your climb tomorrow 😁xx
