After a good night’s sleep, we woke early, had breakfast then set off for Dover. It was an easy 30 minute drive from the aire at Canterbury, which I’m sure we’ll use again.
The ferry journey to Calais passed quickly, mainly because we watched Tom Daley and Noah Williams win their diving silver medal en route. In France, the sun was shining, our music was playing and the roads were mostly quiet… all in all a pleasant, stress free journey.

We arrived at Camping de l’abbatiale and were shown to our pitch where we set everything up for the next 5 nights. We’re 1-2 hours away from central Paris via public transport and plan to go into the city 2 or 3 times to soak up the Olympic atmosphere, visit an event that we’ve booked and maybe watch the triathlon. Unfortunately the triathlon is under review because of pollution in the Seine following the heavy rain during the opening ceremony.

In the meantime, we spent an enjoyable evening with Tracy, Mark, Dan and Izzy, catching up, eating dinner and trying to work out the trains.
