We had planned to hike up to Balmhorn Hut today. However, we awoke to bouncing rain, and low cloud smothering the mountain tops. A lazy morning followed… reading in bed, coffee and breakfast, and catching up on emails and the news.

By lunchtime, the rain had stopped, the clouds had lifted a bit, and the sun was shining, so we decided to walk to visit the Kandersteg Museum. Apparently, it’s three museums in one… a local museum with the history of Kandersteg, a scouting museum and a cable car museum… but we didn’t get to visit. Despite having checked the opening hours, and later tourist information, it was closed. At least we had some fresh air and exercise.

Back at the Airbnb we relaxed a bit more, starting to finish off the food and drink we can’t carry with us when we move on to Le Châble on Sunday, watching a bit of Wimbledon, and reading the tributes to Diogo Jota, saddened by the news of his death.

Tomorrow is our final day in the Airbnb. We’re going to catch a bus to the next town and walk along the river to a suspension bridge. On Sunday, we leave Kandersteg and the next section of our trip begins… the challenge… the main event… The Walkers’ Haute Route.
