After a lovely breakfast in our posh hotel in Zermatt, we checked out and were given a ride in the hotel’s electric buggy to the railway station. This felt very luxurious after mostly travelling on foot for weeks!

We took two trains and had a 4 hour journey to reach Geneva. It had been chucking it down with rain as we travelled but, when we arrived, it was only spitting.

Our hotel was just a 10 minute walk from the station. Once we’d checked in and freshened up, we set off to explore on foot, pleased the sun was now shining.

We spent a short time in Geneva many years ago, but couldn’t really remember much other than the iconic water jet in Lac Léman, and doing a webcam geocache with help from a friend in work. From the hotel we walked down to the shore and wandered towards the old part of the city, stopping en route for a bite to eat.

We wandered up to the cathedral and explored the surrounding cobbled streets, lined with old elegant buildings and an assortment of expensive shops. The city was bustling, but not uncomfortably busy, and we enjoyed the stroll.

In the evening, we had our last meal out of the trip, an Indian curry, which was the tastiest we’ve had for a while.

Today, we took the train to the airport and flew back to Manchester. We were sat on the plane for 2 hours before we took off, thanks to a shortage of baggage handlers in Geneva, and severe thunderstorms around Paris. Apart from that, the journey went smoothly.
We had a wonderful trip, but it’s good to be home with a cup of tea, and I’m really looking forward to sleeping in my own bed.
