We had a good night’s sleep on the campsite and woke ready to hit the road and travel to Colmar. We left Luxembourg and headed to France. The rain was atrocious for a while and the roads were flooded, with Molly sending up flumes of water. Thankfully, it didn’t last too long, and she’s much cleaner now!

We arrived at the aire in Colmar at about 2 o’clock, parked and headed to the old town. Here, the charming cobbled streets are lined with beautiful half-timbered medieval and early Renaissance buildings.

The architecture is influenced by the area’s German and French heritage, and the buildings are pretty colours, including pink and yellow from using local sandstone.

After a late lunch of flammkuchen and pinot gris, both local specialities, we explored an area of the town crossed by canals, which is now called ‘La Petite Venice’. This used to be the butchers’, tanners’ and fishmongers’ quarter. The covered market, built in stone, bricks and cast iron, is still open today.

The promised rain thankfully didn’t materialise and we enjoyed losing ourselves as we explored the picturesque town, admiring more wonderful views around every corner. The place got quieter as the day trippers went home.

Colmar is like a fairytale town and we’d definitely recommend a visit. We, however, have moved on… next stop Liechtenstein.🇱🇮
