Santa Margherita Ligure

We didn’t do anything exciting yesterday. Instead we took some time out to catch up on van chores… tidying up, washing and shopping… and making plans for our final weeks. Rather than heading into the mountains, we’ve decided to stay on the Ligurian coast for a bit longer, while the weather’s good.

Today, we had a leisurely day. After a late start, we caught the bus to Santa Margherita, which we thought looked interesting when we passed through a few days ago.

It’s an old fashioned resort with a harbour, beaches, and elegant hotels, restaurants and shops. We enjoyed walking around the narrow streets looking at the wide variety of independent shops, then spent some time choosing a restaurant for lunch. Our choice was good, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

After lunch we headed to the beach, passing various statues, as well as pretty gardens and a fountain. The hills above the town are dotted with grand villas, nestled in the trees.

We then spent an hour or two swimming and enjoying the sunshine before we headed back to the campsite for our last night in Rapallo. Tomorrow, feels like the start of our journey home as we begin to head north.
