Obernberg am Brenner

We left the Airbnb and, after a short bus ride, arrived at Almi’s Berghotel in the Obernberg valley. We have a lovely room with a balcony and a view of the beautiful little church.

We settled in and, after lunch, decided to have a short walk. It was such a lovely day that it turned into a longer walk uphill to Obernberger See.

So much for a rest day, but at least I burnt off my lunch and the pastry I scoffed in the bus station!

When we got back to Almi’s we decided to be brave and visit the sauna. Being British, we’re not used to spas where everyone walks around naked! Once we overcame our apprehension, we enjoyed cycling between the hot sauna, standing on the chilly balcony and then lounging in reclining chairs with a cold drink.

By now it was dinner time, so we dressed and went down to the restaurant where we met Joy, who is also in our snowshoeing group. Everyone else should arrive sometime tomorrow. Dinner was three courses… soup, salad, lasagne and tiramisu, all washed down with red wine. So much for my diet!

I’m not sure what we’ll do tomorrow… probably more of the same… walk, sauna and eat! Snow is forecast at the weekend so, hopefully, we will be able to get our snowshoes out soon. Fingers crossed!
