After breakfast, we decided to have a short walk up a side valley, to Frader Alm, a summer farm in the foothills of the mountains.

We left Almi’s and, once we left the road, put on our spikes and followed a babbling river uphill. The ice formations in the water were beautiful. Water had frozen across the path in large patches and I was very tentative crossing the thick ice, despite the grip that my spikes provided.

After about an hour, the valley opened out to lovely views of snow covered mountains, and it wasn’t long until we reached Frader Alm. Apart from a couple of skiers at the start of the walk, we didn’t see any one else all morning. It was very peaceful having the hills to ourselves.

To get to the track we planned to return to Obernberg on, we had to do a short section of cross country. It was fun sinking in the deep snow as we crossed the river valley!

We followed the track for a while before stopping at a wooden building to eat some lunch, enjoying the sunshine. From this point, it was all downhill back to the hotel.

We’re now relaxing while we wait for the snowshoeing group to assemble. The plan is to meet up at 6, before dinner. I think there’ll be time to visit the spa first ☺️.
