I woke up feeling much better, apart from the itching bites on my legs. We are both covered in little pink spots but have never seen the culprits… there are no mozzies or midges to be seen anywhere! It’s a mystery!
Although we don’t leave the campsite until Saturday, we’ll be away paddling for the next 2 days so, this morning, we started planning where we’d like to go next. John has booked an aire just outside Orange, and I booked campsites in L’isle sur la Sorgue and Rousillon, each for 2 nights. Campsites seem a good idea while there’s a heatwave so we have shade and showers.

Then we got everything ready for our packrafting trip… packrafts, paddles and BAs; tent, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, and cooking gear; and food, extra clothes and toiletries. We also checked everything would fit in our rucksacks and that I could actually lift mine!

After wandering to the campsite shop for supplies, we stopped at the bar for a snack for lunch. Snack? Even my salad was huge! Then it was time to cool off with a swim in the river… perfect!

I imaged myself looking like a mermaid posing on a rock in the middle of the river… ‘more like a walrus hauling itself out’, John said! 🤣
We spent a couple of hours at the river where it was relatively cool, first in the water, then on the campsite sun loungers. It was fun watching the numerous plastic sit on top boats float down. At times there was carnage as 1 kayak got stuck and the ones behind ploughed into it!

It’ll soon be time for a shower and dinner… chicken kebabs, new potatoes and salad. Then maybe we’ll play boules before having an early night ahead of our coming adventure. I don’t suppose I’ll get much sleep in the tent tomorrow night!
PS there may be no blog until Friday now as I’ll be in the gorge for 2 days 😃
The river looks amazing … so inviting 😁
