Arco and its castle

The weather forecast wasn’t very good so we decided to have a relatively lazy day and just wander into Arco and visit the castle, perched high on a rocky outcrop above the town.

Despite the forecast, the weather was sunny in the morning. John and I decided to walk to the town, while Dan and Jackie chose to cycle. We wandered along the cobbled streets past charming old buildings and met them at a bar behind the church for lunch.

After lunch, we climbed the steep zigzag path to the castle, which dates back to the Middle Ages, and wandered through the various buildings and towers.

The views over Arco, the Sarco river and towards Riva and Lake Garda were amazing. The sunshine had disappeared to be replaced by stormy clouds and, soon, we had to put our raincoats on. Thankfully, the rain didn’t spoil the day and we still had huge ice creams back in the town. They were delicious and only cost 6 euros for two!

In the evening, we returned to Arco a second time to meet up with John’s friend Jamie and his partner. She’s Italian and local to the area, and gave me some tips on what to see. We enjoyed catching up with them before returning to the campsite. Today, it’s time to move on. And explore somewhere different.
