A couple of days in Cannobio

We moved to Cannobio on Lake Maggiore where we’ve spent a couple of days exploring the town and relaxing. After settling into the campsite, we had a wander along the beautiful promenade and through some of the pretty cobbled streets.

These days are the last with Dan and Jackie before they head for home. We’ve really enjoyed their company. They seem to have been happy going along with our rather structured plans, even when it’s meant a slog uphill on a hot day!

We’ve sampled a few bars and have enjoyed the snacks supplied with drinks here. Whereas we’ve mainly been offered crisps and nuts in other Italian towns, we’ve sampled all sorts of scrumptious little delights in Cannobio!

Lake Maggiore provided the opportunity for another wonderful swim, and Dan and Jackie used their paddle boards for the last time before packing them away.

We also cycled up River Cannobio to the Orrido di Sant’Anna, a gorge carved out of the rock by the river. John and I swam in a deep pool here, which was far colder than the lake. Our bodies were tingling afterwards. Wonderful!

We then walked up to the bridges over the gorge, enjoyed the view below us, and peeped inside the ornately decorated little church.

Having cycled back to the campsite, we got ready for a night on the town, making the most of Dan and Jackie’s last evening.

Nibbles and cocktails in two bars were our starter, before we had a main course washed down with wine in a restaurant further along the prom. What a lovely place to watch the sun go down! It had a calm, sleepy and relaxing feel as we wandered back to our vans.

Now we start the next chapter of our trip on our own… a bit more of the same around Lakes Maggiore and Orta, before we head to the Ligurian coast.
