Lucca Parkrun and Sestri Levante

The alarm went off this morning, set so we didn’t miss Parkrun. As usual, John was far more enthusiastic about running than me and I could happily have stayed in bed. However, I didn’t want to disappoint him so I dragged myself up and got ready to cycle to Lucca.

Lucca Parkrun is a single lap of the city’s medieval walls, which were made into a pedestrian promenade in the early 1800s.

It had been raining again, but now the sun was trying to shine. While we waited for the event to start, there seemed to be more people speaking English than Italian! The briefing was even given in both languages!

It’s a beautiful route but I did struggle, probably because it’s so long since I’ve done any running. I was pleased to see the finish and John waiting for me. That said, I’m glad I made the effort, and was I happy with my time, given that I’d done a little walking and stopped to take a couple of photos.

After running, we decided to complete the route again and cycle round the walls so we could pause to look at the views. Then we went back to the campsite for well-deserved coffee and pastries.

Once showered and packed up, we set off back north to Sestri Levante where Molly is staying (with and without us) for the next 8 nights. Once again, we drove through heavy rain showers but, by the time we reached the campsite, the sun was poking through the clouds.

By the time we’d parked up, settled on to our pitch and done two loads of washing, the sky was blue. Hurray! We had a swim in the pool and dried off in the sunshine before the sun dropped behind the hills.

Today, we’re preparing for a couple of nights away from Molly because we’re spending a few days hiking through beautiful Cinque Terre… something that’s been on my bucket list for ages. I hope it doesn’t disappoint!
