Punta Baffe hike

We were going to have a lazy day today but rain is forecast for tomorrow so, after we’d done our washing and tidied Molly Moho, we decided to go for a walk. It’s not as hot and sunny as it has been, but a very pleasant temperature for some exercise.

We left the campsite and headed uphill on the road before turning off onto a rough track. This wasn’t very attractive, being covered with rubble in places, and I did wonder if I was going to enjoy the walk. However, I told myself that I was at least burning off my breakfast croissant!

Thankfully, after a couple of kilometres, we turned onto a narrow path and the terrain and scenery improved. We wound our way through bright green trees and shrubs, including these pretty strawberry trees… not the same as our strawberry bushes, although the fruit is edible.

When we’d walked for about 5 kilometres, we reached our intended destination, Punta Baffe watchtower. This was in a better condition than the tower we visited yesterday. We could even climb a ladder to the upper floor and look out of the window! 😆

The views from the headland were lovely. To one side we could see Riva Trigoso with its beaches and shipyard, and the Portofino promontory in the distance. On the other side we could see Moneglia just below us, and all the way down the coast to Cinque Terre.

Rather than retracing our steps we decided to take the path down to Riva Trigoso. This would mean walking back up the road to the campsite, but we agreed we’d prefer the circular route.

We made the right decision. The path was rough and rocky in places, but easy enough in descent, and being able to peer down into the shipyard was interesting. It seems odd to have so much industry in a beach resort though! 🤷‍♀️

The walk up the road wasn’t too bad, only taking us 15 minutes, and we used it as an excuse to have a beer and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. Tomorrow we’ll relax ☺️.
