It’s been a busier day than we expected! We left the Rapallo campsite fairly early, planning to travel up the road to a moho parking area just on the edge of the Portofino national park near Camogli. We were looking forward to a couple of walks we’d planned from there.
Unfortunately, when we arrived there were lots of signs saying no motorhomes allowed due to a landslide, despite the car park being huge and advertised on the council’s website! There was nowhere else to stay nearby so we decided to move on to the west of Genoa where we had planned to go later in the week.

We turned up at the campsite in Spotorno just before lunchtime closing and were surprised because it looked rammed. Luckily there was one pitch left and it is the best that we have had all trip. It’s in the sun and there’s plenty of space.

After lunch, we had a gentle bike ride east along the coast. The lovely beaches were really busy (for October) and there were cars and scooters lining the road. We turned back once we started to lose the picturesque views and chose a lovely spot on a pebble beach to swim. We prefer pebbles because they don’t get in every bodily crevice like grains of sand! The sea was crystal clear and a stunning aquamarine. Truly delightful, especially as it’s been hot today.

After three swims, we cycled back to Spotorno town and had a beer and gelato in a piazza. There is a kite festival, ‘One Sky, One World’, taking place this weekend but, unfortunately, there was no wind for them to fly. Tomorrow we will hopefully get our walk! And maybe we’ll see the kites flying.

That ocean looks amazing!
