Finale Ligure and charming Finalborgo

We left Sportorno and headed to the beach via the supermarket. Next, we parked by the beach near Varigotti in the hope of snorkelling. However, unfortunately, there were people fishing by the rocks at both sides of the bay, which would have made it awkward to snorkel.

We therefore carried on to Finale Ligure where we’ve parked up at a motorhome aire right next to the sea. It’s delightful listening to the waves lapping the shore as I type.

After having some lunch, we wandered inland to the medieval walled town of Finalborgo, which is part of Finale Ligure. With its colourful narrow paved and cobbled streets, it’s charming, and another place I’d happily return to.

Finalborgo is full of little art and craft boutiques and outdoor kit shops, with interesting signs and potted plants everywhere… as well as people’s washing hanging above our heads! It’s also fully pedestrianised, so it’s calm and peaceful.

There are lots of inviting bars, cafes and restaurants, with mountain bikes parked everywhere… Finale Ligure is a top mountain biking centre, not that I’ll be tackling the trails!

We meandered through the historic streets, then made our way up a rather slippery cobbled path to the 17th century castle. Unfortunately, it was shut, but the views over the town to the coast made the climb worthwhile.

Back in town, we enjoyed wandering through the streets again, resisting the urge to buy anything. Then we spent an hour or so relaxing outside a little bar, watching the world go by over Negronis and beers. What a wonderful place!

Finally, we made our way back to Molly Moho. We probably won’t be sitting out this evening because the sun has gone in and it’s a bit breezy and cool. Hopefully, there won’t be any mozzies tonight though… they’ve been driving us mad. We’re sure there are 1 or 2 still hiding in Molly!

  1. Another beautiful post… I loved the photos showing what I think are shop signs, but im not sure what the legs sticking out of the barrel are for? It’s those quirky touches that always capture my attention 😆
