Ok… Who sniggered? Or is it just me and John that find the name of this mountain amusing?
I had an awful night’s sleep with so many hot flushes that I felt as though I was lying in a puddle all night! At 7 we decided we might as well get up and make an early start up Wank, which is just behind the campervan site. It was a beautiful morning.
Wank isn’t very high at 1780m, but we still had over 1000m of ascent (more than Snowdon). The paths were through woods, quite similar to British ones, and we had good views towards the highest mountain in Germany, Zugspitze, which we hope to walk up over 2 days later in the week.
We finally reached the top at about 11 and sat on the terrace of Wank Haus (another snigger) enjoying a couple of beers and feeling smug that we’d walked up, whereas most people had got the cable car.
John also had a disgusting looking white sausage for his lunch. Neither of us is impressed with German food. In our opinions, it’s generally very bland and uninspiring.
We walked back down by another route, also a pretty path through the trees. It was very hot by now and I had a headache by the time we got back to the campervan. However, after a snooze and a shower, I feel much better.
Tomorrow we have a walk through a gorge planned. We take a cable car up the mountain so it should be easier than today’s walk.
