We were up early once again and enjoyed a beautiful sunrise, followed by a lovely breakfast.
While we were preparing to leave, a helicopter shot past the refuge down to the valley below giving everyone a surprise. It returned a few minutes later with 3 big bags hanging below, which were dropped behind the refuge. This was repeated a further 3 times giving everyone a great spectacle.
Today’s walk gave us splendid views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding mountains. Along the way we saw lots of marmots and what looked like a couple of golden eagles.
The weather got hotter as we reached the high point at Tête de la Tronche, 2584m. The effort involved was worth it for the best ever picnic spot!
From there we had a great walk along a grassy ridge before dropping down to Rifugio Bertone for drinks.
After that it was a steep descent through pine forest and then past lovely houses into Courmayeur where our hotel was. We had a decent shower but the hairdryer was rubbish, and we took the opportunity to do some washing and charge all our devices.
Walk stats: 16 kilometres, 821 metres ascent, 6 hours 32 minutes.
