A Scandinavian road trip

Today we set off on a long awaited trip up to the Lofoten Islands and eventually Nordkapp, the highest point in Europe. We’re travelling via the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Finland… lots of new countries for us and, hopefully, lots of adventures.

Yesterday, John had to take Molly Moho to have some sockets fixed… why does something always go wrong last minute? In the meantime, I was tied to the house waiting for a courier to collect the IT equipment I used for work and return it to NICE… the end of an era… we’re now both fully retired!

When John got home, we loaded the scooter into Molly Moho without any dramas, and packed our kit, clothing, food, toiletries etc, into the cupboards. Mum came round for some fish and chips for tea, then it was time for an early night.

Today, we did our final chores… emptying the bins, watering the plants and so on… before setting off to Harwich to catch the overnight ferry to the Hook of Holland. The journey went well, even though John insisted on detouring around the M6 and M6 toll using the A5, which avoided bumps and a large fee but added about 20 minutes to our journey. That said, we still arrived at our destination by about 4.30 and parked up on the seafront.

After a cup of tea, we wandered around Harwich, which is an interesting seaside town with lots of history, before visiting the Alma Inn for something to eat. It was an enjoyable way to spend a few hours before heading to the port.

Having checked in, Molly was inspected, then we sat in a queue for what felt like ages, but probably wasn’t all that long… I have started with a sore throat and cold so I’m a little grumpy! Now we’re in the bar on the ferry waiting for the ferry to leave before we snuggle up in our cabin to sleep. Goodnight!
