John took the bikes off the back of the van and we rode up to the beach for breakfasts… Croissants are so much better in France than anywhere else.
Afterwards, we rode into the the centre of Gravelines to visit tourist information. The town is fortified with ramparts and moats and we wanted to know more about them. We followed a walk in a leaflet that we were given, which was very pleasant. The moats used to be controlled by sluices.
Satisfied we’d seen enough of Gravelines we decided to move on to Wissant, which is the other side of Calais from Gravelines. We stayed in a stopover site here last year and it was much more peaceful than the site in the centre of Calais. Plus there was a lovely restaurant next door 🙂
We parked up and then cycled into Wissant for a late lunch… The best salads we’ve had all holiday. In our opinion, the food in France is better than in Italy or Germany.
After lunch we spent an hour or two relaxing on the beach… The first time we’ve been to the beach this holiday as Liguria was so busy and we left! After yesterday’s rain, I can’t believe the weather has been so lovely today. It has been a perfect end to our trip 🙂
