We couldn’t decide where to stay tonight. We usually stay in an aire at Wissant but the last couple of times, its been really busy and weve only just squeezed in. The forecast was good though and we fancied a couple of hours on the beach so, after a few suggestions from people in a campervan Facebook group, we decided to see if we could could get in the aire at Sangatte, just minutes from the beach.
After stopping at the boulangerie, we drove the 4 hours to Sangatte, near Calais, just 10 minutes from the Eurotunnel terminal where we need to be at about 7 o’clock tomorrow. The roads were fairly quiet to start with because its Saturday so there are few lorries. However, as we approached Calais, it got busier as all the Brits seem to be heading home. Luckily there were a few spaces on the aire and we managed to find one where we could put the awning up to keep Bertie (and me!) cool.
After eating lunch, we headed to the beach for a bit. The temperature was perfect. Even the sea was warm! We sat and watched the ferries coming in and out of the port, paddled and enjoyed a beer. Afterwards we had a shower outside the campervan, which was fun, especially as our neighbours had the same idea at the same time!
Once again, the restaurants are fully booked. Oh well… we’ve overspent over the last couple of weeks anyway! We’ve got plenty of food in and the aire is peaceful, so we’ll enjoy another al fresco meal. We’ve got some pizza, meats cheeses and salad and plenty of wine.
An early start and home tomorrow. I’m looking forward to seeing Millie, and mum and dad. Unfortunately, one of mum and dad’s cats is missing, which is very worrying. I’m not looking forward to all the chores we have to do… washing, ironing, cleaning Bertie, mowing the lawn, watering the plants, calculating the finances, editing photos… the list goes on. Thankfully, we have another week before we’re back in work… phew!
