I’ve had a variety of coasters out of the kiln today because I’ve been trying different techniques… kiln carving, mosaic cutting, and simple confetti and powders. However, the most striking of this morning’s coasters are these bold, bright and beautiful ones.
They look easy to make, but the pieces need to be cut quite precisely. Cutting glass in a straight line isn’t too difficult if you use the right tools… primarily a cutting square, oil filled glass cutters and a running tool. However, I do find it difficult to get the measurements exactly right so the pieces fuse together well to minimise any bumps at the joins.
I’m thinking of making these in sets of 4 coasters in similar colours. They’d probably sell for about £20. What do you think? Would they make a nice gift? John definitely has his eye on some blue ones!
