At last our holiday has started. We set off at 1.30 leaving the cats in Jean’s loving care. In spite of knowing they’ll be well looked after, I felt awful leaving them, especially as I didn’t get to say good bye to Millie who’d done a disappearing act… Maybe because John took her to the vet to have her anal glands squeezed this morning!
Within an hour we’d hit our first traffic jam and I had to remind myself that I’m going to be laid back Louisa this summer. I gave myself a talking to and managed to convince myself we won’t miss the train, and we will find somewhere to sleep tonight!
We finally reached our friends’ house near Northampton, where we were taking a break, and were greeted with a cup of tea and yummy freshly baked cookies. It was lovely to catch up with Ann, Holly and Eddie and a shame we couldn’t stay long enough to see Nick.
Another long tailback on the M25 (how unusual!) and we wondered whether we’d have time to get something to eat before getting the train. In the end we couldn’t have timed it better. We just had 20 minutes to spare to grab a dirty burger.
Now we’re sitting waiting for the train to leave and I’m wondering whether there’ll be room in the stopover site in Calais, or whether we’ll have to drive further. I’ll let you know tomorrow, or when we find wifi.
See you on the other side. Goodnight x
