Friday 18th August: Move to Pralognan la Vanoise

After yesterday’s epic hike, today was very tame. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t enjoyable… it was. After a leisurely start, we packed everything away and left the Ecrins behind to head to the Vanoise Alps.

The first half of the drive was stunning, over 3 high mountain cols… the Col du Lauteret, the Col du Galibier and the Col du Telegraphe. The roads were full of cyclists, repeating routes their heroes had ridden in the Tour de France this year. Well done to them all! Those climbs were epic!

The route was still beautiful after this, but less spectacular. We stopped for something to eat by a river in a pretty village near Valloise, then at the supermarket before we entered the long valley to Pralognan la Vanoise where we’re camping this week.

Next week we are going to do a 5-day trek… Tour des Glaciers de la Vanoise… so we spent the afternoon looking at the route, booking the 4 mountain refuges and planning what we need to do tomorrow to prepare. It’s very exciting!
