We stayed up late last night to see the midnight sun. However, there were no clouds around so we didn’t get a good sunrise/sunset as the sun worked its way along the horizon. I spent a lot of time trying to identify some ‘rafts’ of diving ducks on the water. Google AI was convinced they’re eider, but I’m not so sure!

This morning we awoke to sunshine again… the left hand photo below was taken from my bed! Cloud and rain were forecast for later in the day though. We made the most of the warmth while it lasted, drinking our coffee outside, then wandering down to the beach for a paddle.

The water was lovely and warm, and incredibly clear. Unfortunately, the tide was out and it wasn’t deep enough to swim.

The beach is made up of crushed shells and coral. I enjoyed searching for life in the seaweed and on the shore, but didn’t find much. I think anything interesting was hiding in the seaweed!

After an al fresco breakfast enjoying the view, John practised flying Dave the drone. Then we washed and changed before walking over the bridge to the neighbouring island of Sommerøy.

We picked up some supplies at the small supermarket, and did a little sightseeing. It was good to get out and stretch our legs… and I needed to earn my pecan slice!

The islands are very small, but there are plenty of pretty places to see (and photograph!). We got back to Molly Moho, just as light rain started to fall.

This afternoon, we’ve been planning some hikes on Senja, and I’ve booked a campsite at Merfjordvær. It’ll give us the opportunity to do some washing while we’re there for a few days.

Apart from a couple of days being windy, the forecast for the next 5 days looks ok, with little rain. Fingers crossed!
